Oxytocin is best known for its role in love, helping newborns bond to their mothers and make romantic lovers look more attractive. A study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences consisting of 40 young men who had been in at least 6 months relationship and being passionately inlove with their counterparts found out the effects of oxytocin to the brain.
Oxytocin Maintains The Bond Tighter
During the study, the subjects were put into brain scanner in order to know the response of the brain if the subject was exposed to inhaled oxytocin or placebo via nasal spray while images of their partners and complete strangers were shown. They found out that the brains, especially in the region where pleasure and desirable are located, of the group of men being sprayed with oxytocin were lit up when they saw the pictures of women they loved which indicated a stronger attach to themas compare to the strangers. Another intriguing finding was that some of the brain parts were also activated when photos of their beloved ones were exposed suggesting that their partners are more desirable than those good looking strangers. The researchers concluded that when men received oxytocin, it increases the attractive values of their mates thus reducing the chance of male for seeking others.
Oxytocin Releases Naturally In Our Body
Oxytocin is produced in our system naturally. It is known to be released during kissing, hugging, orgasm and any other form of intimate moments.
