New candies that prevent tooth decay

Our teeth today might be the result of what habit we usually eat when we were young.

Candies are one of them and our parents always warned out to minimize or avoid eating sweet because it can develop cavities that eventually destroy our teeth.

Yes, that claim is true as which supported by most dentists.

When we eat sweet, the bacteria especially Streptococcus mutans  which stay in our mouth converted the sugar ti acid that damage the tooth enamel, provides protection to tooth, then create cavities afterwards.

No wonder our mothers remind us to minimize taking sweets. But a new candy might prove your mother that she is wrong.

Fear No More

Organobalance, a Berline-based biotech firm being led by Christine Lang and her colleagues, has developed a candy that contain a strain of Lactobacillus paracasei which known to be effective in reducing cavities in lab rats because this bacteria will attached to the Streptococcus mutans thus minimizing its number that later preventing the development of tooth cavities.

The Team created two groups having the first group being given by candy with heat-killed bacteria of paracasei while the second group was provided candy with same sweetness but no bacteria or simply placebo.

However, the first group was further subdivided into two having the subgroup A to be given with candy containing one milligram of such strain while the subgroup b where granted with, a higher dose, for about two milligram of it.

At the end of the experiment, after each subject ate about 5 candies over a period of one and a half day, about three fourths of the first group who provided with Lactobacillus paracasei had significant lower levels of mutans streptococci in their saliva as compare to the level prior to the study.

Also, they noted that those subgroup who received a higher dose of such bacteria showed a reduction of mutans streptococci after their first candy.

So once these candies are available in the market, tell your mother not to worry about developing cavities when eating sweet, because even dentists would agree that this new sensational product is good and effective in preventing tooth decay.
