We lost control to the stresses we experienced from the high demand of modern living. Aside from that, temptations are hard to resist and we easily give in. Some individuals found themselves hard in controlling their feelings and thoughts which lead them to aggressive tantrum, over eating and binge drinking. But scientists found out an effective tool to resist such urges.

The Real Power Of Prayer

If you are religious especially if you are belong to the christian domination, then you know how to pray. It had been taught to you oftenly by your parents when you were young during before sleep. It is a medium of communication to the Supreme Ruler of the universe - God. But aside form that certain perk it may give, praying is a proven way to self control when outburst occurs within ourselves. According to the latest study conducted by German psychologists at Saarland University and the University of Mannheim, they found out that praying is actually helping people to keep their self-control at bay. The study were composed of 79 people came from different faith acquaintance whom 41 were Christian,14 atheist, 10 agnostic and 14 other individuals from other religious affiliation. They let them pray or think anything freely about certain thing as extreme as possible for five minutes. After that, they all watch funny video clips that required them to react normally, suppress their emotions then control their facial response. Lastly, they all took the Stroop test which requires self-control because our instinct to read the word itself and not the color.

The Results

After the three tasks given to them, the researchers found out that those individuals who though freely and tried to hold their feelings during the video clips had shown a degree of difficulty in the Stoop test, while the people who prayed at the beginning of the study shown a high level of self control by doing the Stroop test easily.
